Anita Deswal, MD, MPH
Dr. Deswal is the Ting Tsung and Wei Fung Chao Distinguished Chair, Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Cardiology at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Houston, TX. She was previously on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine where she was Professor of Medicine and Chief of Cardiology at the VA. Dr. Deswal is a successful clinician with interests in heart failure, cardio-oncology and echocardiography, a clinical and outcomes researcher in heart failure and cardio-oncology, and a recognized educator and mentor. She was recipient of the highest teaching and clinical awards at Baylor College of Medicine, including the Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education and the Master Clinician Lifetime Award. Dr. Deswal has co-authored over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts in high impact journals including Circulation, JACC, New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA. Dr. Deswal has served on the editorial teams of several cardiology journals and served previously as an associate editor for Journal of Cardiac Failure. She is currently an Associate Editor for JACC:Heart Failure. She has been active within the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Heart Association (AHA), and the Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA). Notably, she served as a member of the ACC/AHA Joint Committee for Cardiovascular Clinical Practice Guidelines, Chair of the Heart Failure and Transplantation Committee of the AHA and is at present the Chair of the ACC Cardio-oncology leadership council. She was a writing member of the most recent ACC/AHA practice guidelines on atrial fibrillation (2023), heart failure (2022) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (2020).
