Juan Simon Rico Mesa, MD
Dr. Rico Mesa is s currently an Interventional Cardiology & Structural Heart Disease Fellow at Johns Hopkins Medicine. He completed his medical school training at Universidad CES in Medellin, Colombia, followed by a research fellowship in Advanced Cardiac Imaging at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, where he worked in strain analysis imaging. Subsequently, he completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. As an intern, he was recipient of the Outstanding Intern Award. As a senior resident, he was selected to participate in the “resident teaching track”, where he enhanced his teaching skills to early trainees. He completed his General Cardiology Fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was awarded an award as a first year fellow for being a fellow that displays exceptional interested in learning. He also completed the requirements of the Association of Fellow Educators at Baylor College of Medicine. In addition, he completed a comprehensive economics course at the Wharton School of Business, after receviing a scholarship award by the American College of Cardiology Texas Chapter.
His academic interests include Interventional Cardiology, structural heart disease, and Critical Care Cardiology. Particularly, he is highly interested in Cardiogenic Shock management, early shock interventions and strategies. His short-term future plans include becoming an Interventional Cardiologist and a Critical Care Cardiologist. In the long-term, Dr. Rico Mesa would like to become a CCU and Cathlab director and enhance comprehensive cardiovascular care of the critically ill cardiovascular patient. Socially, Dr. Rico Mesa is passionate about Roman history and grilling.
